Question

I've been trying to get hold of a good quality recording of a heartbeat - not the crappy TV programme, a sound effect of a human heart beating, but am not having any luck.

The ones on the the sound effect download websites seem to be recorded through a stethoscope and are pretty poor quality (ie not a clean, clear sound).

Anyone have any suggestions for how to effectively replicate this sound? Thanks.

Well, the ones I've heard sound like they've been recorded from a stethoscope - so I guess someone has held a mic up to the stethoscope (which probably doesn't make the best speaker), they've then had to make it much louder in order ro hear the actual heartbeat which introduces unwanted noise. Thanks for the tip though I'll take a look on Limewire.

if you use an appropriate search term you should find it easily

That's the first we've heard of your film too... care to elaborate...

it was the first movie i shot... the thinking mans evil dead

I had to do a horror film for school so its not as much of the everyone does a zombie movie thing we talked about. Actually, it wasnt like Evil dead at all other than it was in a wood and we stole the camera zooming about, but they stole loads from other movies aswell so its all good

As for a search term, heartbeat may get you loads of love songs. Heartbeat recording, Heartbeat sound, heartbeat effect... just keep trying till you get something!

Excellent, I think Kazaa is Windows thing though - I'm on Apple Mac. I'll have a look on Limewire (a smiliar thing on the Mac), but I can see it coming up with loads of stuff (mainly crap) that I would have to sift through. What would be easier would be if you could be so kind as to email it to me... if that would be okay. Was the clip fairly clear of background noise?

i dont know what you mean by background niose, but as a professional recording from a spooky sounds CD yes it is without other nioses. The reason i said to get it on kazaa is becos im not entirely sure i have it in its original form anymore. I added to on a loop with some other scary nioses to make some ambient niose for my epic "death wood"

As for having to download alot of crap, if you use an appropriate search term you should find it easily (assuming its there)

When I needed a heartbeat for a 'Banana Man' trailer we made - my mate just got the Deftones album - White Pony, the end of the last track is just a pulse type sound which we recorded and looped!
